Please reach us at StormSquadFL@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Our primary emphasis lies in fostering a culture of neighbors helping neighbors. While participation in the Storm Squad is open to all, financially compensated roles must live within the community to ensure there will be a network present to assist during storm events. Storm Captains are also required to live in the community they are working in.
All communities within the South CRA are invited to join the Storm Squad! We do have a pilot project for our Ambassador program with compensated positions available in Harbordale, Bartlett Park, Palmetto Park, Jordan Park, Childs Park, Lake Maggiore Shores and Campbell Park. Compensated positions for our CERT and Storm Captain programs are limited to those in Bartlett Park, Child’s Park, Harbordale, Jordan Park and Palmetto Park.
Our ambassador program has the fewest barriers to participation and has an expectation of 3 volunteer hours per month. Storm captains on the other hand will be the most involved members of the Storm Squad. For more information on each of these positions' involvement, please visit the community information tab.
A background check is not required for our ambassador program. However, the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Storm Captain programs require a background check.
A level two background check is required for CERT and Storm Captains. There is no background check requirement for ambassadors.
Yes, if you know you will not pass the background check but would like to be involved with the Storm Squad, we recommend you apply for our ambassador program. If you apply for a CERT of Storm Captain position and do not pass the background check, you can still apply to be an Ambassador.
There is no intended end to our program. This is a volunteer program we hope will last many years into the future!
There will be CERT training, general preparedness training, and training on CRIS and how to serve as a conduit between the community and emergency officials.
Please email us at StormSquadFL@gmail.com to request to have the Storm Squad speak at your community event.
While the Storm Squad is intended for community members, we would like to partner with community leaders to identify concerns within your community and members who would be interested in the Storm Squad.
All members of our community are welcome to attend any of our meetings. Come and see what we are all about!
The Ambassadors/CERT meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month from 6 - 7 p.m. at the Enoch Davis Community Center, with a virtual option. Note: The meetings that are scheduled during a month when a Town Hall is held will be canceled.
The Town Hall is held quarterly, usually on Saturday mornings, from approximately 10 - 1 p.m. Locations and details for the Town Hall events vary.
